The Founding Fathers Just Plotzed

Democratic Leader Laughs at Idea That House Members Would Actually Read Health-Care Bill Before Voting On It

“If every member pledged to not vote for it if they hadn’t read it in its entirety, I think we would have very few votes,” Hoyer told CNSNews.com at his regular weekly news conference.

Uh…

“We think the American public expects their legislators to know what’s in a bill before they support it, and we’re urging legislators to sign a pledge to that effect,” [Colin] Hanna told CNSNews.com.

That’s where we are. We have to ask our Government to sign pledges to read a bill before voting on it. This is representative government?

Update: more responses to this farce.

    you may have to edit out some of the profanity i’m going to spew here:

    i can’t ****ing believe this! every time i hear about this i just ****ing plotz! (and no, blog.heritage.org, this is not just a liberal majority thing – the first time i heard about this happening is with the **** patriot act, you stupid blowhard ********! and my guess it has been happening for much longer than that! remember ***hole, it’s the power, not the party!)

    and what the **** is up with hoyer? just because these crappy, long-ass bills have been “vetted” (right, sure) by committees and staff and review boards doesn’t mean YOU know what’s in the damned thing.

    ****ing a’! the constitution – just the framework for an entire damned country! – only comes to about 18 pages worth of writing. and you can’t ****ing keep your stupid dumbass laws more concise than that?

    bitchass ****ers.

    @bakiwop,

    sweet mother of pearl, man!

    i’ll say this: nobody with even as little as a sixteenth of their thought processes can possibly miss your point, sir!

    though I disagree with the statement on the Heritage Foundation.

    it bugs me most, i think, that this country has been asleep for so long (and i am the chief sinner here). we’ve painted ourselves into a corner. when election time comes around again, i hope people break the levers at the polls voting these politicians out of office. my fear is where we’re going to be by that point
